You’ve read about Dahi Handi – now let’s make your own mini version at home! No climbing required, just some craft supplies and a little imagination.
What You’ll Need
- A small paper cup or empty yogurt cup
- String or wool
- Blue and yellow paint or crayons (or any colours you like!)
- A few small pom-poms or cotton balls (to look like butter)
- Sticky tape or glue
Steps
Step 1: Decorate the pot
Colour or paint your cup – traditional Dahi Handi pots are often clay-coloured, but you can make yours as colourful as you like!
Step 2: Add the “butter”
Glue a few pom-poms or cotton balls inside the cup, to look like the butter and sweets Krishna’s friends were trying to reach.
Step 3: Hang it up
Poke two small holes near the top of the cup, thread string through, and hang it somewhere at home – a doorway, a shelf, wherever works!

💡 In real Dahi Handi celebrations, teams of children and adults form human pyramids, sometimes many people tall, just to reach the pot and break it – try building your own “pyramid” with soft toys or cushions instead!
